Florida This rare map of Florida is from Lubrecht’s Pictoral and Comprehensive Atlas of the World, published in New York in 1885. He was later associated with Hoasis – also in New York – and they published The American Union Railroad Map of the United States, British Possessions, West Indies, Mexico and Central America in 1870 and 1872. However, neither this company nor Lubrecht when he was the earlier publisher are mentioned in the standard references. The counties established before this date are shown accurately except that Monroe County (west of Dade and south of Manatee) does not extend south to Florida Bay but stops at the southern part of Cypress Swamp. On the reverse side of the Florida Map is a map of Alabama, which was also the case with other Atlases of the mid and late 1800s. |
